Nudie

Saturday my clothes were falling off they were so heavy with sweat. I had to take my shirt off about mile 14 because my shoulders were starting to hurt some. The problem with that is that my shorts were sagging from the weight of all my sweat so I kept having to pull them up. It was fun, the first half going by really quickly... thinking to myself did I miscount because that didn't feel like eleven. The last mile I was thinking did I miscount because this feels like 25, not 18. It was good though. I even managed to do my P90X legs and back that night, and Sunday I had enough strength left to do Kenpo and Ab Ripper. I put in six this morning, which I needed because my legs were starting to tighten up. I'm pretty excited about doing 18 again next weekend, now that I know I can do it. Hope that y'all saw some great things in Napa. I remember it being a great run, mostly because of the cooler morning, but also just the beauty of it all...if you got to run it, please blog about what y'all saw. Can't wait until we get together this week. Love, LJ
-Oh and I was thinking that at the finish line of Denver when the camera is on me, I should stick my arms out like a plane and "fly in". Don't know if that would be a good pic or not.

I agree

I know what you mean Linds about your head getting in the way. I have to prepare myself for a long workout so my head wont get in the way of telling me Im tired. Yesterday I went to the Velloway and rode 12 miles and went as fast as I could. I was wanting to do a speed workout. I was passing people and I felt pretty strong. Even though I need to get a tune up on the bike...i do not think my left gear really works right now. This one guy was the only one that passed me and then after I passed this girl... you can tell she didn't want me to pass her, we were neck and neck for about 3 miles. It really helped to ride by the other cyclists. Yet is was sooo hot. It was around 5:30-6 and I think this really adds to the workout or makes it harder. The wind was even hot. I should try working out in the morning as well to see the difference. My water on my bike even got really hot.

Lately I have been praying for things when I am really on my last straw in my workouts. Its been on my heart lately to pray for Rebecca my sister with Spinabifida. I just recently realized that spinabifida patients usually only live to about early 20's. So when I feel spent I pray for her healing that it would be a miraculous healing and that his name would be glorified. I thank the Lord that I have the legs to run, since Rebecca can only move in the wheel chair. I feel humbled and appreciative at that moment. It takes away the pain. So my tough times have been really neat, in just praying for someone else.

I have noticed the Lord is really working on me in my workouts. Or maybe when I can really hear him because Im so vulnerable since I have not been riding or running with music.

Love you guys. I ll miss you Linds. I wish you were going!!!

intimidated

This week is my first 18miler of my training and I have to admit that I'm feeling somewhat intimidated. I know that I can do 15 because I've done it twice this month already, so I'm planning on concentrating on that and then pushing thru the last 3 whatever it takes (even if I have to walk). Its not the distance that is scaring me, but the heat. It seems like everyone is going to be gone this weekend so I'll have all day saturday to mentally prepare myself, relax, find my happy spot. I know its weird, but my head has to really be into it to do a long run. If I'm to emotional or distracted or if anything happens the day before that I didn't plan for, I'm almost useless. Hopefully one day I'll be strong enough to just do it without so much effort going into it! The numbers are weird with me too...8 is harder than 10, 12 harder than 15, 18 harder than 20...it doesn't make sense, but for some reason it works out that way in my head. If I skip the 18 I'll probably injure myself, but 20 sounds a lot better right now. Have fun in Napa! Love, Lindsey

Couples Tri

So I did the Couples Tri this past weekend as you both know. But, I thought I might as well blog about it since I can and I have the time right now. I know between the both of you I have spilled all of the details, so you don't have to read them if you don't feel like hearing it all again!

Swim: I was really nervous and my adrenaline was pumping like crazy. I tried to scoot to the front right hand side, since all of the turns were to the right. Once the gun went off I sprinted away. My arms to tell the truth felt like bricks - I felt a little stiff in the water, but I tried not to think about it too much. Me and 2 other girls left the bulk of our wave behind. I swam right behind a girl that shot off ahead, but I stayed on her feet for about the first 150 or so. Right next to me was Corey, who beat me at the Danskin and who I used to swim with when I was a kid. Corey and I ended up passing the girl up and we were pretty far out in front of everyone. I felt fast and I felt like I had a lot to give at the end, but my time was slower than I was hoping for. Corey and I were neck and neck again on the swim, with me beating her by a mere 2 seconds.

T1: was super slow - my hair rubberband broke and so a nice lady watching on the side gave me hers. It cost me probably 30 seconds or so. Also, the shorts I chose to wear were difficult to get on since I was still soaking wet.

Bike: I felt really strong on the bike and I was ready for the rolling hills this time (unlike at the Danskin). I got passed by 2 girls during the bike and 5 or 6 men, but I felt like I was going as fast as I could go without completely killing myself before the run. I also drank a ton of my water in my camelbak (which by the way, no other bikers I noticed wear. Maybe it causes too much wind resisitance? I don't care - it's easier for me to drink from that than grab a water bottle).

T2: was really fast (for me) thanks to my handy make-shift camera bag strap that had my race number on it (used in lieu of a sort of pricy "racing belt", which does basically the same thing)

Run: I felt really strong for the first time during a race. I got passed only twice (not by girls :-)) and I ended up re-passing those people during the course of the 5K. I felt great and strong all the way up the big hill and all the way to the end where I picked up speed even and did NOT have to go to the infirmary again!

Overall: My best race yet. i know where I need to improve (transistions for sure :-)) and I can't wait until the Austin Tri in September!

LN Blog

Hey guys! Well I signed up for the half marathon in SA TOWN. So that is written in stone. Jessica mentioned doing the hotter than hell 25mile bike. Which I am going to look into doing in August. Yesterday Sarah and I went to that Nike running club. It was a lot of fun. We did a lot of drills and stretching. At one point the lead instructor said you two, pointed to us, said we were totally in sync with our strides. We thought...Go Renegade Racing Team! :) I'm excited about it because it seemes benificial in training smart to prevent injury and it would be a lot of fun to make it a routine to run with you both there. It also helps that it is such a fun vibe running off congress and looking at all the cute clothes from the window and to see the the cute clothes the girls are wearing walking by.
Im amped about making training a routine. Consistency is always something I have had to work on and I am looking forward to working on it and overcoming this. Thank you Lindsey for your inspirational emails. I actually really get excited when I see I have one of your emails in my inbox. And its usually in the am when you send it out which is a good little perk and jumpstart.
Love you guys,
Ninja....lol

Love you guys and soooo amped about

New Gear

So I get home yesterday and on the doorstep there is the packet I have been anticipating from Team Boomer (my charity I'm doing the Denver marathon for). It was much larger than I expected. First I pulled out a long sleeve underarmor shirt with the team boomer logo on the front and website on the back, nice. Then I noticed a hat with the logo (both were navy), really nice. There was also a short sleeved navy under armor shirt to match the long sleeve one and a pair of navy nike running shorts, pretty legit. They also sent me a jillion light blue plastic bracelets and pamphlets to hand out to my supporters. Y'all will be getting one of each next time I see you. I'm pretty stoked.
If you want to checkout the sa half page its at http://renegaderaceteam.blogspot.com I can invite you to the page if you want to post. Love ya, Learjet

Finally I'm writing a blog :-)

Hey there all you racers in internet land (especially Lindsey & Melin)!
Well, I'm finally taking the time to blog my training. Everything is going awesome. I have a triathlon in exactly 1 week and there is going to be some pretty stiff competition, so I am MOTIVATED!! Not only is the race motivating me, but the Olympic Trials are making me wish I was a world-class athlete in real life (not just in my head :-) ). Every time I get in the pool to swim, I feel like I'm Katie Hoff swimming to make another world record, except my times just happen to be in a type of slow-motion time zone on a different planet earth. Either way, i feel strong and good in the water and I'm excited about swimming the race on Sunday.

Biking is also a blast. Melinda and I went on quite an adventure the other day, where we learned not to ride down Slaughter Lane during morning rush hour traffic. We also learned how to change a flat tire, thanks to my tire giving out and Brent kindly rescuing us. Biking is still really hard, but I'm getting better at mentally wrapping my mind around the pain and still working through it.

Today I ran the farthest I've every run...8 miles. It was awesome. I ran on the treadmill at the gym, since the gym has a babysitter, and I really got into it and the music I was listening to. I felt like I could have kept on running, but since my children were in the gym daycare and it was getting to be lunch/nap time, I stopped. Also, during the last mile, my foot developed this sharp pain at the ball of it, so I thought it was a good stopping point anyways. I only have to run a 5K in the race this weekend, but it would be nice to be able to NOT get passed during the last mile and it would be nice to NOT have to go to the nurses station because I'm about to pass out at the end of the race! That's what happened to me at the Danskin - I got passed by 2 people from my age group during the very last mile. The run is definitely my week point, but I hope all the sprint work and brick workouts that I have put in in the last 4 weeks will pay off this next weekend. We'll see! :-)
