NYC Baby!
I ran through Brooklyn, over the Brooklyn Bridge, into Manhattan, down Broadway and back! You know how they have those awesome pics at the beginning of every Runners world of a person "out running somewhere" and they are the most awesome looking places to get in a run? This was like that. They should put me in next months issue.

Hate to say it
I hate to say it, but I think the heat is taking its toll. Either that or I'm making excuses, but I feel exhausted. Tonight I'm going to watch the Augie (UT Baseball coach, winningest coach of all time in any sport) documentary though, and I know I will come away feeling inspired by his pearls of coaching wisdom.
This morning I ran six before work and I was going to do six again tonight, but I might do it in the morning. I think I need to switch off, making everyother week only about running and doing my two spin classes on the odd weeks. Haven't decided for sure yet, it might just get easier as I get used to the temps.
I think I've picked my charity...probably going to join team Boomer (cystic fibrosis foundation). Sounds like a worthy cause. Keep up the hard work ladies, it takes a warrior's spirit to push through these heat, so I know the two of you will have no problems with it! Lindsey

Its hot!-Melinda
So I ran today on my lunch break and did 4 miles. It must have been high 90s outside. It was a good run and I surprisingly did a good time. The last mile I was praying the whole way. I get so challenged and I love thinking I am doing this for the Lord. It actually really makes me speed up and sprint the hills. I also did spin yesterday and gave it my all. I think that may be something I might really like to train for. It is extremely challenging yet easy on the knees for me. Tonight my knees are a little something..... They dont hurt or feel pain but they just feel a little trampled on.
Anyway so this week is a good start of very challenging training. Im really excited about doing a duathaton.
Love you guys!

Impact a Hero
This weekend was pretty big for me. First of all, baseball season is ending and its time for Mike to start traveling...Time for me to get serious about training now that I'll have the extra time. Also, I did this run called impact a hero to raise money for wounded soldiers. Just a 5k but I was pretty happy with my time of 26:56- especially considering I put in 8 before the morning before the run and that Houston is freaking humid! The Texans were out and I beat a few of them, including the quarterback! I didn't get a chip timer, not wanting to make the run about anything but fun...but according to the times, I would have been a solid 2nd in my age group. So its an out and back course...I'm about 3/4's of a mile from the finish, which means I'm also at 3/4 miles from the start and on the other side of the road and there are these two soldiers on cruches trucking up the course. It was so emotional, and I must have been the only one who noticed. I started yelling and one of the Texans running beside me looked over and started cheering them on too. That's why I run, that's what God is showing me in all this. -Lindsey
QUOTE
I was just about to exit the blog when I saw the quote, TEST ME Lord and Try me....
I guess my runs are challenging and I really get desperate for the Lord at moments and speak to him. I bet hes trying to teach me. I love that.

Lesson Learned
Well yesterday I decided I was going to go for a run. I set out to do 4 miles, which I have usually been doing 2-3. For a "long weekend run." Well I started out around 445. I headed out of the neighborhood and started running off the access of I35. At almost 2 miles, the heat and sun were really taking everything out of me. I think it was 100 degrees when I was out there. I was thinking I should drank more water a lot more water before the run. I had to do a big hill and ran up and back down to finish the last 2 miles. At 3 miles my mouth got really dry and I felt extremely spent. I walked for a second and then got motivated of thinking I can get water when I get home. I got home and did some research on the comuter and realized I probably had the beginning of heat exhaustion. LOL Im glad I made it home, yet learned I need to be very careful and be prepared when running in this crazy hot weather. But it feels good that I finished it.
Im glad you all are training great. I have been thinking of what would be good to train for. I love running I guess Im just discouraged by 26 miles lately. I love training for something though. I dont know I may be just having a moment.
Love you both,
Melinda
