I'm not dead yet
I almost didn't make it through the first two miles this morning, but once I loosened up some, six did not seem far at all after yesterday's run. My overall pace for the run was a 9:38-better than I thought I'd do time wise, but I did not feel as well at the end as I hoped. I learned a lot though- about race morning, pacing myself, and how much training I have left. Here's the recap of things I learned- 1. You need to make sure you turn your ipod off overnight- because even though it is plugged into the car stereo, the car must be on for it to charge 2. If you pick a random runner to partner yourself with, don't wait until somewhere between mile 7 and 8 to ask him how experienced he is-hoping to qualify for the boston this year is not the person to pace yourself by 3. Be sure to bring a bag to the starting line, just in case they don't have sacks for you to use to check your stuff in 4. Have a definite plan of how you are getting to the race start with a map, just in case your cab driver is clueless 5. A little tip from my faster running friend from Shiner- 18 miles is not 26 miles, you cannot train your body more, but you need to train your head. 8 miles is a lot to push your way through. Try a 22-23 miler before your first marathon. Sorry to so wordy but a little more info about my race. I finished 1110 over all out of 2187 and in my age/gender group 58 out of 160. I'm still stoked for VA! Love ya, Lindsey
